1. Before June 10, come to room A201 and check out a copy of an AP textbook (normally Zumdahl, 6th Edition). If you receive this after June 10, see Mrs. Chaffer in Guidance for your book.
2. You need to come to class in the fall with a good understanding from your first year course of the following concepts. These concepts are covered in the first three chapters of Zumdahl. All of this should be review.
Atomic Structure
Scientific Measurement
Dimensional Analysis
Significant Figures
Naming Inorganic Compounds
Writing Basic Chemical Equations
Solving Basic Stoichiometry Problems (mass-mass, percentage composition, empirical formula, etc.)
3. To prove to me you have this basic understanding, you will need to complete a few problems from the textbook. You will access these problems and submit your answers online. To complete the problems do the following after July 1:
a. go to http://www.webassign.net
b. login using the first initial of your first name followed by your last name
c. institution = southriver.md
d. your initial password will be seahawk
e. find Summer Assignment and submit your answers prior to the first day of class
4. WebAssign will allow you free access for two weeks after which you must pay a one-time fee for the school year (usually around $10) or use a free student access code of which I do have a limited supply. Make sure you get one from me unless you want to pay the fee yourself. Since we will be using WebAssign for all homework assignments throughout the year, please make the account permanent as early as possible.
