PTSO

The South River High School Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO) supports students and teachers by supporting Cultural Awareness, Student Recognition, and Peer Mentoring activities, and sponsoring the Recognition Walkway, Scholarships, Driver’s Ed and SAT Prep classes.  We support and help out with Homecoming, Prom and other class events, as well as student clubs and special assemblies.  In addition, teachers count on us to help provide classroom supplies, instructional materials and textbooks.

A letter from your PTSO President:

Dear Parents,

The PTSO would like to remind you of some things we are working on for this year…

South River High School is a GREEN SCHOOL, which means the newsletters are no longer produced in paper form. You can now find the news and important announcements on this website, www.southriverhigh.org, or sent to you electronically via the South River Tracker.  If you are not signed up for the SR Tracker, you are missing important updates and late breaking information.

We encourage you to support your PTSO by becoming a member and supporting our ongoing fundraising efforts, such as Driving School, SAT Prep classes, Market Day and Miles for Media, as well as our annual membership drive.

Almost 2,200 students attend SRHS.  Only 89 families joined the PTSO last year.  Make a difference and join.  We are holding a PTSO Membership Drive Contest to encourage greater participation.  Your membership may help your child’s graduating class win extra funds!  The higher the percentage of PTSO membership enrollment for a class, the more money we can contribute to their class fund.  See the Class/Media Center Renovation Poster for more information.

Your membership donation also helps us support the SRHS Media Center Renovation Project. The project costs are estimated to be over $500,000.  Improvements to the Media Center will include flexible learning spaces, Smart Boards for instruction, student workstations, furniture, new computers, along with an updated computer lab, new laptops for student use, e-readers, books, and other library materials.  Though we are a long way off from meeting that goal, the bond to cover the cost has already been secured.  To receive the matching amount, we MUST raise $30,000 by May 31, 2013.

Please Join Today!

Use the membership form (below) to send your payment to the school or pay via PayPal with a credit card.  Remember, joining the PTSO does not mean you will be expected to attend monthly meetings, although your participation is very much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Kathy Kraus, SRHS PTSO President

Fundraising Ideas

The PTSO is looking for new fundraising ideas.  No idea is too small.  We would love to hear any suggestions for fundraising ideas that could be incorporated into the school program.  The more money we can raise, the more support we can give our students.  If you have any ideas or know of something we can do, send your suggestions to southriverptso@hotmail.com or drop by one of the regularly scheduled meetings to present your idea.  All are welcomed!

Teacher Wish List

The PTSO is trying to raise funds to provide teachers with items that they are wishing for that could help them in the classroom.  We are asking for monetary donations to help fill these requests.  We want our students to get the best education that they can and that is why we are trying to fund much needed school supplies, text books and equipment.

Some of the most expensive items on the Wish List are ink and laser cartridges for the school printers, Smart Boards ($2,500 each), LCD Projectors ($650 each) and Document Cameras ($600) and mounting any one of the electronic tools costs $1200.  Business sponsors are welcomed, if you happen to know of a business that would like to work with us, please pass on our email address.

Please consider making a 100% tax deductible contribution to this worthwhile project.
A small donation from many parents will go a long way to meeting teachers’ and students’ needs.  All checks should be made out to South River High PTSO, and mailed to SRHS PTSO, 201 Central Avenue East, Edgewater, MD  21037.

Each year we work hard to support our school.  Let’s show them how much we appreciate being a Seahawk by granting their wishes.  For more information, contact us at southriverptso@hotmail.com.
