South River’s Mathematics Team has a long history of victories at the Anne Arundel County Mathematics Competitions. At this year’s first match, South River earned the highest individual score and came in second overall in the county.
What is a math competition?
High school mathematics competitions are sponsored by the Math Department at Anne Arundel Community College. Students have the opportunity to work on math problems individually and with a team from their high school. During the individual competition, the student works on six problems which encourages him/her to use a wide variety of math skills and knowledge. During the team competition, teams comprised of up to five students, all from the same high school, work on six problems which challenge them to use their extensive math knowledge.
How do I join?
You do not have to be a straight-A math student to be on the math team. Our team is a diverse combination of students with many levels of talent. Just about the only thing we have in common is a passion for math.
We have practice problems available for those who want to get an extra edge at the competition, or who simply enjoy brain-teasers.
